1) Provides an efficient source of methionine
Hydroxy methionine calcium is a methionine analog that can be rapidly converted into L-methionine in animals, participating in protein synthesis.
2) Promotes feather, skin, and hoof health
Methionine is involved in keratin synthesis and is essential for the growth of keratinized tissues such as feathers in poultry and hooves in pigs.
3) Improves formulation flexibility and stability
Compared with DL-methionine, MHA-Ca is more stable, less hygroscopic, and resistant to caking, making it easier to store and mix.
4) Enhances immunity and antioxidant capacity
As a sulfur-containing amino acid, it participates in the synthesis of antioxidants such as glutathione (GSH), helping eliminate free radicals and improving stress resistance.
1) Broiler chickens
Studies have shown that under heat stress conditions at 32 °C, the calcium salt of methionine hydroxy analog (HMTBa-Ca) improves feed intake, average daily gain, and muscle growth in broilers more effectively than DL-methionine (DLM). At the same time, it significantly enhances antioxidant capacity, reduces free radical levels, and improves redox status, thereby demonstrating superior performance in promoting production efficiency and alleviating oxidative stress.
Note: DLM refers to DL-methionine, and HMTBa-Ca refers to the calcium salt of hydroxy methionine analog. Different letters following data in the same column indicate significant differences among treatment groups (P < 0.05).

2) Pigs
Studies have found that supplementing piglet diets with one-eighth of DL-2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)butanoic acid calcium (HMTBa-Ca) or with 65% of the dosage of DL-methionine (DLM) produced comparable improvements in growth performance, both significantly superior to methionine-deficient diets. No differences were observed among treatment groups in feed intake or mortality rate.

1) Ruminants
In Holstein dairy cows, daily supplementation with 400 g of calcium salts of fatty acids and hydroxy methionine calcium significantly increased milk yield and lactose production. In primiparous cows, it also markedly improved reproductive performance, including higher conception rates and shorter calving intervals, without affecting body condition or body weight.
