Common Micronutrient Deficiencies in Breeding Cattle and Sheep Farming and Suggestions for Supplementation
1. Cobalt
Cobalt deficiency in cattle and sheep is actually due to insufficient vitamin B12 synthesis due to cobalt deficiency. Vitamin B12 is required for rumen microbial and body metabolism in ruminants.
The main symptoms are progressive wasting, loss of appetite, anemia, rough coat, and decreased productivity, commonly known as "wasting disease". Lambs and calves showed growth arrest.

2.Zinc
Zinc deficiency in cattle and sheep results in zinc deficiency
It presents as skin problems with thickening, keratinization, and chapped skin, especially in the nasal, oral, hoof, and periarticular areas. It's called parakeratosis.
Hoof disease, in which the hoof shell is fragile and easily cracked, causing lameness.
Reproductive disorders, testicular dysplasia and spermatogenesis in male animals; Ovarian dysfunction in female animals.

3. Selenium and VE(both synergistic effects, often considered together)
Selenium deficiency and VE in cattle and sheep cause white myopathy, most commonly seen in calves and lambs, which manifests as skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle degeneration, difficulty in standing, stiff gait, and sudden death of the animal.
Se deficiency and VE in cattle and sheep can lead to reproductive disorders, with DAMS showing anestrus, low conception rate, abortion, weak birth, or stillbirth.
