Common Micronutrient Deficiencies in Breeding Chicken Farming and Suggestions for Supplementation
1. Iron
Iron deficiency causes iron deficiency anemia, pale mucous membranes, comb and beard, growth retardation and listlessness in chickens.

Zinc deficiency causes growth retardation, decreased feed intake, and slow weight gain in chickens.

3. Selenium and VE(both synergistic effects, often considered together)
Symptoms of selenium deficiency in chickens:
Sexual diathesis: typical symptoms. It is manifested as a blue-green accumulation of fluid (edema) under the skin, especially in the chest, abdomen, and legs, which is caused by increased capillary permeability.
Pancreatic fibrosis: affects the digestion and absorption of fat, leading to growth arrest.
White myopathy: Pale, shrunken muscles (especially pectoralis and leg muscles) with white streaks, resulting in weakness and difficulty walking.
Synergistic deficiency with vitamin E: selenium and vitamin E together play an antioxidant role, and deficiency symptoms often appear together, aggravating the condition.

4.Copper
Symptoms of copper deficiency in chickens:
Anemia: Copper is necessary for iron absorption and hemoglobin synthesis, and copper deficiency can also cause anemia.

Feather fading: A breed of colored plumage in which the plumage fades and becomes dull.
Aortic rupture: Copper deficiency leads to reduced elastin synthesis in the blood vessels.

5.Iodine
Symptoms of iodine deficiency in chickens:

6.Manganese
Symptoms of manganese deficiency in chickens:
Sliding tendinopathy (or short bone disease) : This is the most typical symptom. It was characterized by swelling and torsion of the tibiotarsal joint and slippage of the Achilles tendon from the ankle, resulting in deformities of the legs and feet, and the chickens could not stand and walk normally.
Skeletal dysplasia: The bones become shorter and thicker, and the cartilage is dystrophic.
Reproductive disorders: reduced egg production and hatchability, poor eggshell quality, and embryo death before emergence (chondrodystrophy, failure of chicks to break the shell).
